Grain is contracted on a specification, not a name. For milling wheat that normally means protein, moisture, test weight, falling number and foreign matter; for feed grades the tolerances widen but the same headings apply. Agree them before the price, and agree the tolerance band as well as the target.
Black Sea origins move on a tight seasonal rhythm, and vessel availability at the loading port matters as much as the cargo itself. Where a shipment is scheduled rather than prompt, the contract should carry a loading window rather than a single date.
Before you contract
- Protein, moisture, test weight and falling number stated with tolerances
- Foreign matter and damaged kernel limits agreed
- Loading window rather than a fixed date on scheduled cargo
- Phytosanitary requirements confirmed against the destination's import rules
- Fumigation requirement settled before loading, not after
