Oils and meals are two quite different shipments that happen to come from the same crop. Oil moves in flexitanks, drums or parcel tankers and is contracted on free fatty acid, moisture and impurities, peroxide value and colour. Crude and refined are not interchangeable and the contract should say which.
Meals are contracted on protein and fibre, with moisture the practical risk in transit. Where the destination is a feed mill, the relevant certificates are usually health and analysis rather than phytosanitary alone.
Before you contract
- Crude or refined stated explicitly, never implied
- FFA, moisture and impurities, peroxide value and colour specified for oils
- Protein and fibre specified for meals, with moisture limits
- Flexitank, drum or bulk decided before the loading plan
- Health certificate requirements confirmed for the destination
